Type Locality and Naming

Lithology and Thickness
Dolomite. It consists of thin to thick bedded, massive, fine- to coarse-textured, light grey and brown dolomite and dolomitic limestone with interbeds of greenish dolomitic shale and marl in the upper part. Anwar et al. (1992) divided the formation into two members:
i. Doya Member - The name derived after Doya village in SuR. It consists of sandstone and dolomite interbeds with fossiliferous limestone and carbonaceous shale; it contains benthonic fossils. It is 34 m thick in Tarkai Nallah, 30 m in Narmia Nallah and 40 m in Landa Nallah sections, all located in SuR.
ii. Vanjari Member - The name derived after Vanjari village (38P/1) in SuR. It mainly consists of dolomite, and forms cliffs. It is 58 m thick in Tarkai Nallah, 78 m in Narmia Nallah and 64 m in Landa Nallah sections, all located in SuR.

Thickness: 82-108 m. The formation thickness varies from 82 to 108 m in KR (TrI-PP), and it is 91 m thick in KcR (Ko-MP).
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformably underlain by Tredian Fm, or Chak Jabbi Limestone Fm with a transitional contact.
Upper contact
Disconformably overlain by Datta Fm of Jurassic age.
Regional extent
It outcrops in Trans Indus Range, Salt Range (excluding Eastern Salt Range), Kalachitta Range, and Kohat and in southern Hazara. It is absent from Eastern Salt Range.

Fossils
Fossils are rare though some brachiopods, bivalves and crinoids are reported (Fatmi, 1977) .
